DFC Roofing project

Roofing Contractor in Algonquin, IL

Algonquin got its name in December 1847, after proposals including Denny's Ferry, Cornishville and Osceola were set aside for Samuel Edwards' suggestion. It incorporated in 1890, and from 1906 to 1913 hosted the Algonquin Hill Climbs, where automakers brought cars to climb the village's steep hills competing for the nationally known Algonquin Cup.

The Largest Volume of Replacement-Age Roofs in Our Service Area

Algonquin has about 11,151 housing units, and the age profile is barbell-shaped: 26.2% built between 1970 and 1989 and 54.3% between 1990 and 2009, with a median year built of 1994. Owner-occupancy is 88.2% and 74.9% is single-family detached, with 16.7% attached. (Source: CMAP Community Data Snapshot, ACS 2020–2024.)

Add those two cohorts together and it is roughly 9,000 homes in the replacement window — the largest absolute volume of replacement-age roofs anywhere we work.

The two halves are different jobs. The 1970s and 80s housing is on a second or third covering, frequently with decking that needs attention and often inadequate attic ventilation that has been quietly cooking shingles from underneath for decades. The 1990s and 2000s subdivisions are usually clean single-layer first replacements.

Recent Storms Over Algonquin

June 24, 2026. One-inch hail reported at Algonquin between 5:54 and 5:59 PM. The same storm produced one-inch hail at Lake in the Hills at 5:57 PM and, three miles west-southwest of Huntley, a brief tornado with roof damage to a barn along Harmony Road.

August 12, 2026. Power poles downed blocking the road at Algonquin at 10:25 AM — the second consecutive morning of wind damage, following the August 11 derecho.

June 10, 2026 — derecho. A measured 65 mph gust two miles north of Carpentersville at 3:20 PM, just south of the village, and a tree uprooted onto a house at Crystal Lake at 3:15 PM.

One-inch hail is right at the threshold where damage is real and genuinely hard to see from the ground — it bruises the mat underneath the granules rather than punching through, and the granule loss shows up months later.

Permits in Algonquin — and Two Things That Speed It Up

Algonquin publishes a $45.00 residential roofing permit fee — the lowest in our service area — not due until the permit is ready. Community Development is at 2200 Harnish Drive (847-658-2700, press 3). The village works to the 2018 International Residential and Building Codes.

Two features of Algonquin's process genuinely shorten the timeline compared with neighboring villages. First, the ice-and-water shield inspection is available as a self-inspection. Second, and more usefully if you are in the Old Town area: while permits in the historic district normally require Historic Commission approval before plan review, roofing permits are expressly exempt from that step.

So a historic-district roof in Algonquin does not wait on a commission meeting. That is worth knowing if you are comparing timelines.

Commercial Roofing in Algonquin

DFC Roofing is a Carlisle SynTec authorized applicator, which means we can offer No Dollar Limit warranties on commercial single-ply work in Algonquin — EPDM and TPO flat roofs, architectural sheet metal and steep-slope commercial. We work with property managers, associations, churches, schools and building owners.

Algonquin Roofing Questions

Do I need Historic Commission approval to reroof in Algonquin's Old Town?
No. Algonquin's permit process requires Historic Commission approval before plan review for work in the historic district, but roofing and interior permits are expressly exempt. That saves you waiting on a commission meeting.
What does a roofing permit cost in Algonquin?
The village publishes $45.00 for a residential roofing permit, not due until the permit is ready - the lowest published fee in our service area. We pull it as part of the job.
Algonquin had hail in June 2026. How would I know if my roof was damaged?
Mostly you cannot tell from the ground, which is the honest answer. One-inch hail bruises the mat beneath the granules rather than punching through, and the granule loss appears later. We inspect free, photograph what we find, and give you the photos regardless of what you decide.
